Director, ECF Power Programme

The ECF is currently looking for a Programme Director for the Power Team, to work from our head office in The Hague, The Netherlands.

The Power Programme focuses on policies that will fully de-carbonise Europe’s power supply by 2050 at the latest. These policies include prohibition of new unabated coal plant construction, support for commercialization of carbon-capture-and-storage technology, advancing large-scale end-use efficiency and accelerating deployment of renewable energy.

Working with other foundation staff, Programme Directors will define and refine funding strategies within their programme area. Responsibilities include soliciting and reviewing proposals, writing recommendations for board consideration, manage relationships with grantees and grant portfolio(s) and evaluating grants after they are funded. Programme Directors may initiate and convene strategy sessions and engage directly in the field from time to time to ensure progress toward programme goals. With other Foundation staff, they will develop proposals and reports for the Foundation’s partners and other Foundation materials. Programme Directors will help set budget and future program priorities. They will also represent the foundation at meetings around Europe and abroad.

The ideal candidates must be comfortable with policy analysis and assessment of energy and pollution impacts, possess strong writing and analytical skills, and be capable of developing a strategy to achieve changes in policy and industry practices. They should ideally embody the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:

  • A deep commitment to the mission and values of the ECF.
  • Proven track record in the field of power generation at the EU or member state level.
  • Experience fostering collaboration between organisations; experience in working with NGOs is desirable.
  • Experience in negotiating with senior government officials and leaders of major corporations is desirable.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Incisive, independent, analytic mind.
  • Ability to work well in a team; enthusiastic personality; sense of humour.
  • Proven ability to initiate and manage projects.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Fluency in English (required) and at least one other European language (preferred).
