Energy Strategy Center

Mission

The Energy Strategy Center (ESC) is the communications unit of the European Climate Foundation. The role of the ESC is to act as a centre of expertise on energy and climate change communications. Its objective is to help create political, media and public endorsement for strong action to address climate change at international, national and sector levels.

What we do

The ESC applies expertise and resources to ensure that climate change issues are objectively and accurately reported and debated in the public space. It provides communications support to all ECF programmes and their grantees to strengthen the communications and advocacy effectiveness of specific policy developments, such as the decarbonisation of the European power sector, the adoption of more ambitious mitigation targets, greater energy efficiency and improved emissions performance in transport. In this role, the ESC has dedicated team members to each ECF programme who work as part of the programme team, advising programme staff and grantees on communications strategies as well as supporting effective campaigns and ensuring close cooperation between all of the various parties working in each policy space.

The ESC aims not only to deliver communications and advocacy services, but also to build this capacity in the climate and energy community. The ESC has sought to provide direction and coherence in communication on climate and energy issues to shape a narrative that reframes the debate and facilitates action.

Every project of the ESC is seen in the context of the ECF strategy to support an overarching narrative for a prosperous low-carbon future. The core strategy of the team is to ensure that across all sectors of the economy and public life the advantages and benefits of policy to drive mitigation are not only understood but also acted upon. At every stage, we seek to rebut misinformation, and reframe the debate in terms of the economic, social and political benefits of policies that reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and seek to grasp the growth and innovation opportunities offered by the low-carbon revolution.

The ESC also supports strategic communications at the level of our country programmes. In this context, the ESC/ECF Communications Team in Berlin plays a central role in our German public relations strategy and in providing public relations support to our German grantees. Another major task for the ESC/ECF Communications Team in Berlin is to ensure that Germany's pioneering role in decarbonising its economy is well understood in Europe and beyond. For further information please This email address is being protected from spambots.
