    Renewable energy market in Poland needs a new impulse

    • The development of renewable energy sources (RES) in the electricity market can strengthen cross-border cooperation, create new jobs and further economic growth possibilities in Central and Eastern Europe.
    • In Poland, investments in wind energy have already stimulated job growth but overall development in renewables is slowed by four obstacles: inadequate organization of support mechanisms; an unstable legislative environment, restrictions on connecting to the network for new sources of energy, bottlenecks around planning and obtaining approvals for investment.

    The new report "Clean Energy Finance Solutions: Poland", published by the Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership (CPSL) and the Regional Centre for Energy Policy Research (REKK), Corvinus University Budapest, brings forward new recommendations related to the development of renewable energy. It is the latest in a series of reports examining the development of renewable energy sources in Central and Eastern Europe.

  • An Economic Assessment of Low Carbon Vehicles

    Cambridge Econometrics (CE), in collaboration with Ricardo-AEA, is currently undertaking a research project to assess the economic impact of decarbonising light-duty vehicles (cars and vans). The project was commissioned by the European Climate Foundation and was informed by a core working group of experts in the motor vehicles industry as well as other interested stakeholders.

  • Caio Koch-­Weser Appointed New Chair of the European Climate Foundation Board

    The European Climate Foundation (ECF), Europe's largest philanthropic sponsor of climate related activities, is delighted to announce the appointment of Caio Koch-Weser as the new Chair of the Supervisory Board. Mr. Koch-Weser, Deutsche Bank Group Vice-Chairman, takes over from John McCall MacBain, a Co-Founder of the ECF, who has served as Chairman since the ECF's establishment in 2008.

    Koch-Weser has an outstanding track record in the worlds of development, finance, government, and climate change. Prior to his current role with Deutsche Bank, he was German Deputy Minister of Finance (1999-2005) and Chairman of the EU's Economic and Financial Committee (2003-2005).

    The Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) launched this week its data hub for buildings performance and related policies in Europe, www.buildingsdata.eu. The comprehensive open data portal presents facts and figures collected for 'Europe's Buildings under the Microscope' study released end of 2011. It includes a wide variety of technical data never collected EU-wide before.
